There is a new “formation” on Sakurajima, which I think simply is an area that broke off during a strong explosion. If you look towards the bottom center, you’ll see an exposed yellow, sulfur-rich area of rock. When I first saw it I thought I was looking at a fresh hole in the side of the mountain, but the angle is deceptive.
