034/366: End of Winter

February 3rd, 2012 in Daily

Well another year, another setsubun: the celebration of last day of winter. For class we brought in peanuts and Oni (demon) masks, which in recent tradition are worn by parents or older siblings as the younger kids throw the peanuts or soy beans at them in a fun gesture to cast out evil and welcome good fortune.

For class, we twisted this a bit, both wearing the masks and also throwing peanuts at our students. The class had a bad atmosphere going in due to some argument, so this helped lighten the mood.

"Demons out, fortune in!"
