The koi nobori (lit. climbing carp, or carp streamers) are out in anticipation of Children’s Day here in Japan. I expect people have put them up earlier than usual this year to help brighten the spirits in the neighborhood and restore a sense of normalcy here.

At the desk, I had my morning filled reading through short letters given to me by the 1st year 1-1 class. They were all on small swatches of colored paper with plenty of blank space, so I flipped them over and wrote back.

Here it’s Sunday and I’m still writing replies… I was away all weekend though.

Late blooming Sakura variant.
