Two days ago, there was a large landslide near my southern school in Minami Osumi. The Sata Highway (rt. 269), a major artery for transportation for points south on Osumi was cut off.
Unfortunately, it also hit Ohama, one of the best swim-friendly beaches around.
The diverted water cut a gorge into the beach sand and now empties into the bay.
Kagoshima, and Kyushu in general have been hit with a very long and wet rainy season this year. I knew there was always a possibility of a landslide in these mountainous, coastal areas, but I didn’t expect to see something on this scale.
