Preparing for my workshop at Kanoya’s Rose Color Design Festival in Kanoya tomorrow and Sunday. Turning old paper files and misprinted pulp paper called zara (common), zarashi, or zaragami (pulp paper) here. Teachers use it to produce handouts on the RISOGraph high speed duplicators, which are create a master then run off copies at high speeds via drum transfers. They often jam on humid days and cause a lot of miss-feeds, and a healthy “Miss” basket ready to be re-purposed.

In any case, we’ll be demonstrating the Japanese 4-hole bind, “stab binding”, or in Japanese “watoji” (わとじ, lit. Japanese style book binding), though I’ve learned it’s not a common word.
